Dr. Oz
Today I learned from Dr. Oz that one way to increase your iron intake is to cook your food in a cast iron skillet. Weird, huh?

Sharks and Robots and Models
Today I learned how to do an emoticon shark (^^^) and a robot :|]
(They show up as a shark picture and a robot pictures in chats.)
Yesterday I learned that the book "72 Girls and Some Boys Who Could Be Models" sucks!! I bought it for $0.65 at a discount store. It was wrapped in cellophane so I had no idea what was inside. But I figured that for 65 cents I would find out. Waste of money!

The Baldwins
So apparently Alec Baldwin and Stephen Baldwin are brothers. There are two more Baldwin brothers as well but I haven't heard of them. I feel lame for having not known this sooner. I mean, they have the same last name and even look alike. Maybe if their last name was more unique like Arquette I would have made the connection sooner.

.doc .tif .gif
Today I learned how to turn a word document (.doc) into a file that adobe photoshop can read (.tif) and then how to turn that into something uploadable for my blog (.gif) And I figured out how to do it all by myself (well, searching google helped, but I did my own research.) I feel smart today.

Friday - today I learned how people don't bleed out during a surgery. If you cut yourself, you bleed, right? So if a doctor cuts you and does a 8 hour surgery (or even a shorter one) how do you not bleed out? They use clamps to stop the blood from flowing to the area being worked on. Neat, eh?
Saturday - today I learned that all books published through Deseret Book publishing have to be approved by the Mormon 1st presidency.
Sunday - today I learned that there is such a thing as sexual anorexia. It's an actual term basically for people who don't like sex. I won't go into anymore detail. It's kinda weird. But it's apparently a real thing.

Continuing Education
Today I learned that my employer is working on setting up online courses for us to continue our education. To stay with this company long term I need an associates degree in early childhood education. So it is nice to know that our supervisors are helping us get there. And what is even better is that they are working on online options. I don't know anymore details than that. But a little info is better than none.

McDonalds and the 19th amendment
Yesterday I learned that McDonalds will give out gift certificates if you complain about poor service. They actually have a really good customer relations division.
Today I learned that today is the 90th anniversary of the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote.

Catch up
Due to vacationing in St. Louis, I have also seemed to have vacationed from this blog. Let's see if I can catch up.
Sunday Aug. 8: I learned how to play a new game. It is called Mille Bornes and it is really fun. I lost horribly, but that is okay. It was still tons of fun.
Wednesday Aug. 11: I found out my start date for work this fall. Now if only they would tell me my location.
Thursday Aug. 12: I learned about planning funerals. Did you know that if you pre-pay for your funeral, you get the pricing based on when you pre-pay, not on when you use their services? So if you spend $10,000 now and die in 50 years, that funeral you planned could be worth way more than $10,000 in that current market, but you still only have to pay that original $10,000. Neat, huh? And it makes it easier on your loved ones left behind because a large portion is not only already planned, but paid for as well.
Friday Aug. 13: The musical "Showboat" is pretty lame. The plot is alright but it is sooooo long it is not worth seeing.
Saturday Aug. 14: I found out who won Hell's Kitchen. Congrats Holli. I am so excited for her. She is awesome. Though I am very sad that Jay lost. I wish so bad that they both could have won.
Sunday Aug. 15: Today I learned that people will take soda cans and turn them into containers for their weed. They were actually really neat containers - you could keep important non-weed items in these cans too. The salesman was so funny. I think he actually thought Ryan and I smoked weed and were interested in his merchandise. And then Ryan is silly and tells the guy we aren't going to buy anything because we don't need another one. The guy was totally treating us like insiders. Too bad for him we don't smoke pot. Though I do still think it would be fun to own a bong just to own one. But we don't want any suspicion thrown our way.
Today: I learned a friend of mine is getting married today. Yep, just found out today that the wedding is today.

Big Brother
Today I learned who went home on Thursday on Big Brother. I am so happy they have invented DVR. More importantly to this situation, I am very happy they put TV episodes online.

Stuff
Yesterday I learned that Jack Weyland wrote a book about a girl whose stepdad raped her and got her pregnant. And he wrote this book in the 80s. Seems a little heavier than stuff I normally used to reading from him.
Today I learned where my friend Julie now lives. She gets married next week and I got to visit her new apartment today. Fun stuff. I like driving around St. Peters area.

Rastafarian
Today I learned more about the Rastafarian lifestyle. Before today I pretty much only knew that it existed. And while my knowledge is still very limited, I learned a bit more about their beliefs in karma and their God Jah. It is also strongly associated with Reggae music. I enjoy learning about other cultures and ways of living.

New Bus in China
Did you know that China is trying to initiate having a bus that drives over traffic? It's like a moving bridge. Weirdness.

Girlfriend
Today I learned that my good friend Stephen has a girlfriend.

Maverick's Little Lamb Creek
Yesterday I learned that Mary Had a Little Lamb was the first song played on a phonograph.
Today I learned that the Maverick Gas Stations have ovens and bakeries on site. I totally assumed that everything was shipped in, but apparently some things are made at the store. I don't know what all they make there, but they make breads and things. They might still have some things shipped, but I totally didn't know that they baked on site. I think that's cool.
Oh and I also learned that Deer Creek Reservoir is not a creek. Well, I could tell from looking at it that it wasn't a creek. But people always call it Deer Creek. Turns out that Deer Creek is the name of the Reservoir and Deer is NOT the name of the Creek. Make sense?
